Hull Medical Society hosting: How to Beat Stress with Breathing and Mindfulness
Date and Time: Friday, 15th January, 7.00 – 8.15pm, Virtual Platform (Zoom)
Speaker: Michelle Shenton, Senior Instructor and Founder of Lion Heart Hot Yoga Hull (hotyogahull.co.uk)
Long-term stress even at low levels can lead to inflammation throughout the body, and cause or exacerbate multiple health problems. Aside from mental health conditions, insomnia and headaches, stress is related to high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, asthma, skin, hair, hormonal and digestive problems, and a lowered immune response.
The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly increased our stress levels in some way or other. As Michelle will explain, the good news is that we have all the built-in tools we need to be able to manage our stress. You will learn some of the science behind the benefits of focusing on our breathing and being mindful of our thoughts. There will also be a practical demonstration of guided relaxation at the end of the talk.
Michelle is an ex-police officer and now expert Bikram (hot) Yoga instructor. She has trained with yoga instructors from Manchester United and City Football Clubs, as well as in Thailand. Michelle also works with service users from the charity P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery where she delivers guided meditation sessions.
